Road Trip 2017 to Boise, ID & Jackson, WY
My Mom & I are taking another road trip! This time heading North East to Idaho. She has relatives to visit in Boise, so we'll spend a couple days there and check out the area. Then off to Jackson, Wyoming. Another person my Mom knows who lives there, we will see. Then we are on our own. This will be our first trip together where we are winging it, so to speak. We don't have any hotels booked and we are hoping that luck will be on our side to find one in a place we'll want to stop.
I of course, didn't leave everything to chance and have researched a lot on what to do while we are on this road trip. I use roadtrippers.com to plan out our route and the site gives ideas on must-see attractions, restaurants, points of interest, outdoor & recreation, entertainment, etc. from point A to point B and so on.
Wouldn't you want to know where the biggest ball of yarn is in America? Those are the kinds of things you look for on a road trip, right? If you do want to know, the biggest ball of yarn, or twine I should say, is in Cawker City, Kansas. Check out other oddities on RoadsideAmerica.com Supposedly the World's Largest Ball of Barbed Wire was once in Jackson, Wyoming...but is no longer there. Boo! There is however an arch of antlers in Jackson. That's neat. Google it: Antler arch in Wyoming.
In a week from today, we will be heading out. It's roughly 11 hours from my house to Boise, Idaho. We were thinking of taking a pit stop/overnight in Reno but we might make it further. Ever heard of Winnemucca, NV? Seems like the pivotal city - one way takes you up to Idaho, the other over to Salt Lake City. From Reno, Winnemucca is about 2 hours 22 min (166 miles). We'll see where we end up for our first night.
I'm excited just to get out on the open road and see some beautiful scenery & wildlife. There seems to be many rivers and lakes in Idaho & Wyoming. Can't forget about Grand Teton National Park & Yellowstone! We will definitely see parts of Grand Teton and maybe the southern end of Yellowstone. I'm also excited to spend some quality time with my Mom. We travel well together, if you look back on some of my other blogs - we actually did a road trip in 2015 up the coast to Oregon. Our biggest trip so far is when we went to New Zealand last year, 2016 - it was kind of a road trip there too, just in a different country.
More to come. Stay tuned and please feel free to leave comments and suggestions on must-see attractions.
