I've heard the road between Idaho Falls and Alpine is really pretty and has to be seen. Good thing we are staying in Alpine tonight. All along the Snake River.
"The town of Alpine WY rests against the mountainsides at the convergence of three rivers, the Greys, the Salt, and the Snake River. All three of these rivers merge and flow into the Palisades Reservoir." http://www.alpinewy.org/
We will be there for their Annual Mountain Days - Pioneer Village with Mountain Men.
Check in isn't until 4pm, so we might putter around there this afternoon. See if we can meet some of those Mountain men!

The road to Alpine on Hwy 26 today - lots of green rolling hills with patches of yellow fields.
Coming down into the valley, it was actually a pretty easy drive.

We pass a bridge and now Snake River is right beside us.
Irwin 219 population
Palisades have cute RV spots and cabins along the river to rent. Turns into Palisades Reservoir. At one spot, I saw an eagles' nest. Actually they are all over, on top of the power poles.
We enter Targhee National Forest and then Alpine is only about 18 miles away. We passed the Palisades Reservoir coming into Alpine too. It was pretty big.
Made it to the Wyoming border and right afterwards we were in Alpine. Population 828.
We stopped at our hotel for the night Flying Saddle Resort. Checked in, but couldn't get to our room yet, so we went to the Mountain Days festival.
Nothing super exciting. I was a little disappointed I didn't get to see some strong mountain men! There were a lot of booths, more like a craft fair and food booths. We ended up eating at Bull Moose Saloon. Then went back out and perused the booths.
Back at the hotel, we checked in and walked around the grounds. There is laundry service, a workout area, pool & spa, tennis courts, along with seating down by the river and a restaurant on site. The clouds today with the blue skies and green trees were just beautiful.

These are shots from out our room. Great views.
We went to the steakhouse for dinner. I had shrimp, Mom had steak. For dessert we had to have cheesecake.
(Not the best wifi, here at the hotel, so my pics aren't syncing. I'll edit this later and post pics.)
We are back at the hotel and tomorrow we head to Jackson. We need to figure out what we are going to do as well as how we are going to get home as we don't want to go through the desert again. Any suggestions?
